Thusitha Halloluwa Remanded Over Misuse of Public Funds

Thusitha Halloluwa, former Executive Director of the National Lotteries Board (NLB) and former Director General of Public Relations under President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been remanded until June 2 by the Fort Chief Magistrate’s Court. This development is linked to an ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of government property belonging to the NLB.

Controversial Shooting Claim Now Under Scrutiny

Halloluwa recently claimed that his vehicle was targeted in a shooting incident, during which sensitive documents were allegedly stolen. However, investigators now suspect the entire incident may have been staged to obstruct justice and divert attention from the ongoing corruption investigation.

CID Reveals Mismatch in Submitted Mobile Phone

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reported to court that the mobile phone Halloluwa provided for the investigation was not the one he used on the day of the alleged shooting. Despite a court order to submit his phone, Halloluwa initially failed to comply, and the device he eventually handed over does not match location or activity data tied to the date in question.

Investigators Request Access to the Actual Device

Given the inconsistencies, the CID has requested a new court order compelling Halloluwa to produce the correct mobile phone. Authorities believe that the real device could contain key evidence that may prove whether the shooting was fabricated and shed light on the broader misuse of public resources.

Legal Experts Raise Concerns Over Attempt to Mislead Authorities

This case has sparked serious debate about accountability among high-ranking officials. If proven that Halloluwa deliberately misled investigators, it would raise serious concerns about obstruction of justice and the integrity of legal proceedings in cases involving public officials.

Investigation Ongoing as Public Awaits More Revelations

The investigation continues to expand, with further developments expected in the coming days. Authorities remain focused on determining the full scope of the alleged deception and corruption, as public interest in the case grows.
