Musk Escalates Feud Over Trump’s Spending Bill
Elon Musk has taken his battle against President Donald Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” to new heights, vowing to form a new political party if the controversial spending legislation passes Congress.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Musk warned that if the bill becomes law, the “America Party” will be launched immediately to challenge the entrenched two-party system. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” Musk wrote.
Earlier in the day, Musk had threatened to unseat politicians who back the spending bill in their party primaries next year, declaring, “They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
Musk’s outspoken opposition to the bill, which he has called a “disgusting abomination,” has further strained his once cordial relationship with Trump. Once seen as a presidential ally, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO and the former president have publicly clashed in recent weeks, largely over the bill’s impact on federal spending and priorities.
When asked about Musk’s comments, the White House directed inquiries to Trump’s recent Fox News interview, where Trump defended the spending plan, touting tax cuts and border security improvements. Trump described Musk as a “wonderful guy” but criticized some of his remarks as “not appropriate.”
Musk has lambasted the bill for increasing the federal deficit and for favoring “industries of the past” while harming those of the future, such as technology and clean energy sectors. In contrast, Trump has dismissed Musk’s criticism, once calling him “crazy” and even hinting at canceling government contracts with Musk’s companies.
The billionaire entrepreneur has hinted at political ambitions beyond Tesla and SpaceX for some time. Earlier this month, he posted a poll on X asking if it was time to create a new political party to represent the middle 80% of Americans — over 80% of respondents agreed.
On Monday, Musk referred to the current political system as the “PORKY PIG PARTY,” accusing it of representing a single-party monopoly indifferent to the people’s concerns.
Though Musk recently stepped back from direct political spending and his advisory role with the White House and DOGE, his renewed activism suggests he may be gearing up for a more direct challenge to the political establishment.
As the spending bill moves forward, Musk’s bold threats set the stage for a high-stakes showdown between one of America’s richest innovators and the country’s political powerhouses — a battle that could reshape the nation’s political landscape if Musk follows through on his promises.
